Their Story

Slavko Pregl, known by his full name Vekoslav Pregl, was a prominent Slovenian writer, editor, and publisher with a distinguished career spanning several decades. He earned recognition primarily for his contributions to youth literature, establishing himself as a significant figure in Slovenian publishing. Pregl studied economics at the University of Ljubljana, completing his degree in 1972, and subsequently dedicated his professional life to the literary world. Throughout his career, Pregl held several influential positions that shaped Slovenian cultural institutions. He spent over two decades at Mladinska knjiga, a major publishing house, before establishing his own publishing company, EWO. His leadership extended to the Slovenian literary community, where he served as president of the Slovene Writers' Association from 2007 to 2009. In 2009, he was appointed director of the newly established Slovenian Book Agency, a government-funded institution tasked with promoting Slovenian literature and publishing. He led this important cultural organization until his retirement in August 2012, leaving behind a legacy of support for Slovenian writers and readers.
