Peppino di Capri, the stage name of Giuseppe Faiella, was an iconic Italian entertainer whose career spanned nearly seven decades and touched millions of hearts across Europe and beyond. Born on the island of Capri in 1939, he began performing at just four years old, entertaining American troops stationed there during World War II. This early start set the stage for an extraordinary musical journey that would define much of Italian popular music. A gifted pianist and singer, Peppino became celebrated for his unique ability to blend the rich tradition of Neapolitan music with the energy of rock'n'roll, twist, and pop—a fusion that captivated audiences and made him one of Italy's most enduring cultural figures. His international hits such as "Champagne," "Roberta," "St. Tropez Twist," and many others became classics, recorded in numerous languages and beloved across continents. His achievements were formally recognized when he won the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival twice, in 1973 and 1976, and participated in the festival's competition a record 15 times throughout his career. Beyond his recording success, Peppino was known for his elegance, his refined piano playing, and his unwavering connection to his beloved Capri, which remained at the heart of his artistic identity throughout his life. He continued performing well into his final years, celebrating 60 years of his career in 2018 at Naples' Teatro di San Carlo. He is survived by his three children and leaves behind a legacy of melodies that continue to enchant listeners worldwide.
