Their Story

Patrick Tse Yin, born Tse Ka-yuk in Guangzhou and raised in Hong Kong, was a legendary figure in Hong Kong cinema whose career spanned over seven decades. Entering the entertainment industry at age 16, he rose to stardom in the 1950s and 1960s as one of Cantonese cinema's most sought-after leading men, earning the affectionate nickname "Sei Gor" (Fourth Brother) and the moniker "Movie Prince" for his handsome appearance and charismatic portrayals. Throughout his remarkably prolific career, Tse starred in more than 100 films and took on roles as a screenwriter, director, and producer, demonstrating remarkable versatility across romantic dramas, action films, and contemporary works.\n\nAfter immigrating to Canada in the 1990s, Tse eventually returned to acting in 1999 and continued working intermittently. His late-career resurgence culminated in 2022 when, at age 85, he won his first-ever competitive acting award—Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his performance in the film Time, making him the oldest recipient of the honor in the awards' history. He had previously received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2019. Known for his professional dedication and the philosophy that "the show must go on," Tse left an indelible mark on generations of filmmakers and audiences. He was the father of celebrated actor-singer Nicholas Tse and model Jennifer Tse.
