Their Story

Patrick Sean McNally, known as Paddy, was a transformative figure in Formula One's business landscape. Born in Kent and descended from Irish heritage, he began his career as a motorsport journalist for Autosport magazine before transitioning into driver management and sponsorship consulting with Marlboro. His unique perspective—combining racing expertise with commercial acumen—made him invaluable to Bernie Ecclestone's vision for modernizing Formula One's commercial infrastructure. In December 1983, McNally founded Allsport Management in Geneva, a Swiss-based company that revolutionized how Formula One handled trackside advertising and corporate hospitality. He developed innovative signage systems that maximized television exposure while meeting European broadcasting standards, eventually controlling most of F1's advertising sales. In 1984, he launched the Paddock Club, an exclusive hospitality concept that became one of Formula One's most profitable ventures, offering luxury dining, premier views, and VIP access to corporate clients worldwide. Beyond motorsport, McNally became known in British high society during the 1980s, famously residing in Verbier, Switzerland, where he developed a prominent social presence. He was married to Anne Downing from 1967 until her death in 1980; they had two sons, Sean and Rollo. After leading Allsport for over two decades, McNally sold the company in 2006 and remained active in the business until his retirement in 2011. He passed away on 22 July 2026, just two months after his son Sean died unexpectedly.
