Their Story
Oleksandr Hryhorovych Riabeka was a prominent Ukrainian politician, statesman, and human rights advocate who dedicated his life to public service, scientific research, and the protection of citizens' rights. He served as a People's Deputy of Ukraine during the fifth and sixth convocations (2006–2012), representing the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and Batkivshchyna party. In parliament, he headed the subcommittee on legislative support for anti-corruption policy and control over the observance of citizens' rights. Beyond his parliamentary career, Riabeka was recognized for his commitment to scientific advancement and social causes. He earned a PhD in Technical Science and later a Doctor of Philosophy degree, while also serving as a professor at the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University. He was an honored president of the All-Ukrainian Social Organization "All-Ukraine Federation SPAS" and held leadership roles in several civic organizations focused on Chornobyl cleanup efforts and veterans' affairs. Riabeka received multiple state honors, including the Order of Merit of Ukraine and medals recognizing his service. He was also a participant in the liquidation efforts following the Chornobyl nuclear disaster, contributing to Ukraine's recovery from this tragedy.
