Their Story

Lou Koller was the founding frontman and voice of Sick of It All, one of New York City's most influential and enduring hardcore bands. Born in Queens in 1967, he co-founded the band with his brother Pete in 1986 while still in high school, launching their first show at the Right Track Inn in Long Island. Over nearly four decades, Koller became one of the defining voices of New York hardcore, recognized for his distinctive, fiercely-delivered vocals that balanced aggression with melody. His band's 1989 debut "Blood, Sweat and No Tears" became a genre landmark, and Sick of It All went on to sell at least half a million records worldwide, releasing 12 full-length albums through 2018's "Wake the Sleeping Dragon!" Beyond his work with Sick of It All, Koller was a member of the industrial hardcore project Blood from the Soul and served as a tour guide at the Punk Rock Museum. He maintained deep connections within the global hardcore community through relentless touring and unwavering commitment to the scene's values. Koller battled esophageal cancer from 2024 until his death on July 24, 2026, maintaining public connection with fans and receiving support through benefit concerts and fundraising organized by the hardcore community. He is survived by his wife Melissa, their daughter, and his brother Pete.
