Their Story
Josef "Sepp" Puschnig was born on 12 September 1946 in Klagenfurt, Austria, where he would become one of his country's greatest ice hockey legends. In 1962, Puschnig made his debut with EC KAC and stayed with the team for 17 seasons, during which he won 13 Austrian championship titles while scoring 362 goals. A forward who was a three-time Olympian in 1964 at Innsbruck, 1968 at Grenoble and 1976, again at Innsbruck, Puschnig played in the most games by any Austrian Olympian, with 19 across three tournaments. He was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 1999. In 2012, Puschnig was voted by the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation as the player of the century. In 2014, Puschnig received the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria. His jersey number was retired by his beloved EC KAC, and he remained loyal to the club throughout his professional career and beyond.
