Their Story
Jennifer Monserrate was an accomplished Indian politician and dedicated social worker who made significant contributions to public service in Goa. Serving as a three-term member of the Goa Legislative Assembly representing the Taleigao constituency from 2012 until her death, she broke important barriers as the first woman MLA elected from her constituency. In July 2019, Monserrate was appointed Cabinet Minister for Revenue, IT, Labour and Employment under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, becoming the sole woman minister in his cabinet at that time. Her career reflected a commitment to public welfare and administrative responsibility, having successfully managed multiple critical portfolios that directly impacted the lives of Goan citizens. Though she transitioned from the Indian National Congress to the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019, her primary focus remained on serving her constituents and advancing the development of her region.
