Their Story

Evelyn Mae Richardson lived her life with unwavering dignity, strength, and compassion. Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was raised in a time of adversity, but her spirit refused to be defined by limitation. Evelyn earned her college degree during the height of segregation, determined to educate others and lift up her community. As a teacher and later a school principal, she inspired generations of children to reach higher, believe in themselves, and carry their heads high. She believed in the transformative power of knowledge and lived her life proving it. Beyond the classroom, Evelyn was a cornerstone of her church and family. With pearls around her neck and scripture in her heart, she led Bible studies, mentored young women, and hosted Sunday dinners filled with warmth and cornbread. Her voice in the choir was as full as her smile on the porch swing. Known for her calm wisdom and sharp wit, Evelyn was a safe harbor to many. Though her chair now sits still, her presence echoes through the halls she walked, the hymns she sang, and the lives she shaped. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, service, and quiet resilience.
