Dory Funk Jr. was a legendary American professional wrestler and trainer whose career spanned decades and left an indelible mark on professional wrestling worldwide. Born Dorrance Earnest Funk in 1941, he was the son of pioneering wrestler Dory Funk and the brother of renowned grappler Terry Funk. As a competitor, Funk Jr. achieved remarkable success, holding the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and becoming the second-longest reigning champion in the title's history, surpassed only by the legendary Lou Thesz. He also captured the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship and the CWA World Heavyweight Championship during his storied career. Beyond the ring, Funk Jr. became known for his significant contributions to professional wrestling as a promoter and educator. He founded and operated the Funking Conservatory, a respected professional wrestling school that trained the next generation of athletes. His expertise was sought internationally, and he served as chairman of the Pacific Wrestling Federation in All Japan Pro Wrestling, helping shape the sport in Asia. Funk Jr.'s influence on professional wrestling was recognized in 2009 when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. His legacy extends through his work in Texas-based promotions and his dedication to preserving and advancing the art of professional wrestling.
