Their Story
Bruce Mwape guided the Zambia national women's team, the Copper Queens, through the most successful era in its history. Appointed head coach of the Zambia women's national team in May 2018, Mwape transformed the team into a continental powerhouse and global competitor. During his tenure, he led Zambia to back-to-back Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, a bronze medal at the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, and the country's first-ever qualification to the FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. He was named the Best Women's national coach in Africa in 2021. Before his coaching career reached its pinnacle, he coached Nchanga Rangers, Roan United, Indeni and Konkola Mine Police. Away from the bright lights of international tournaments, Mwape was known as a quiet football man whose greatest satisfaction came from seeing his players grow. He rarely sought the spotlight for himself. Instead, he watched from the technical area as the women he coached celebrated victories that inspired millions of Zambians and permanently changed perceptions of women's football across the country.
