Andy Lewis, known worldwide as "Sketchy Andy," was a pioneering slackliner, trickliner, and BASE jumping athlete who revolutionized extreme sports through audacious feats and uncompromising artistry. Growing up in California, Lewis moved to Moab in the 2000s and became a transformative figure in slacklining, earning world championships in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. His breakthrough moment came in 2012 when he performed on a slackline during Madonna's Super Bowl XLVI halftime show, bringing global recognition to a sport few had witnessed. Throughout his career, Lewis pushed the boundaries of what athletes thought possible—crossing over 100 highlines without safety equipment, achieving an 888-meter tightrope walk in 2018, and completing an extraordinary highline walk suspended between two hot-air balloons thousands of feet above the ground. In his later years, Lewis brought the same fearless spirit to BASE jumping, earning a reputation in the jumping community for bold style and unmatched commitment. He founded BASE Jump Moab in 2018, sharing his passion with other adventurers. Lewis was remembered by those who knew him for his infectious energy, boundless creativity, and ability to inspire others to question limits and live boldly. He died on June 14, 2026, in a tandem BASE jump near his adopted home of Moab.
