Reginald Horace Bannister was an iconic American actor, musician, producer, and writer best known for his unforgettable role as Reggie, the shotgun-wielding ice cream man, across all five Phantasm horror films spanning nearly four decades (1979–2016). Born in Long Beach, California, Bannister brought warmth, humor, and genuine heroism to a character that became legendary in horror cinema. Beyond Phantasm, he appeared in over 50 film and television projects, earning the affectionate title "the hardest working man in horror" for his prolific work in independent horror films including Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation, Wishmaster, and Bubba Ho-Tep. A multitalented creative force, Bannister was equally accomplished as a musician and singer-songwriter, releasing six albums spanning rock, folk, and country genres. He performed on prestigious platforms including The Ed Sullivan Show and recorded the title song for the 1965 Oscar-nominated film Cat Ballou. With his devoted wife Gigi, whom he married in 2001, Bannister founded Production Magic Inc., a successful entertainment production company. A Vietnam War veteran, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of artistic excellence and the enduring friendship of director Don Coscarelli, who worked with him throughout his entire career. He is survived by his daughter Ellen and his wife Gigi.
