Their Story

Peter Faber was a celebrated Dutch actor known for his work across stage, television, and cinema spanning five decades. Born in Germany and raised in Amsterdam from age six, he became a prominent figure in Dutch theater after co-founding the influential experimental theater collective Het Werkteater in the early 1970s. The group revolutionized Dutch theater by bringing performances to unconventional venues like hospitals and prisons, and Faber's commitment to the collective's collaborative philosophy was evident in his initial refusal to accept his first Louis d'Or award, believing the honor belonged to the ensemble rather than any individual performer. Faber achieved international recognition through his roles in landmark films of the 1970s, including the star-studded war epic A Bridge Too Far and Paul Verhoeven's Soldier of Orange. He also starred in Max Havelaar and went on to appear in numerous Dutch box office hits throughout the 1980s and beyond. Beyond his acting career, Faber dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of performers as an instructor at multiple Dutch theater academies. His legacy extends to five children and a lifetime of artistic contributions that helped shape modern Dutch theater and cinema.
