Their Story
Nihal Sri Ameresekere was a prominent Sri Lankan litigation support consultant, chartered accountant, and internationally recognised specialist in fraud investigation who dedicated his career to exposing corruption and advocating for public accountability. Born in Kandy in 1947, he became one of Sri Lanka's leading anti-corruption campaigners, known for bringing numerous matters relating to public financial management, privatisation of state assets, and fraud before the courts, including the Supreme Court where he successfully advocated public interest litigations without formal legal training. During the administration of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, he served as Chairman of the Public Enterprises Reform Commission from 2004 to 2005, as well as advisor and consultant to the Ministry of Finance and Planning. Ameresekere authored a comprehensive series of books examining fraud, corruption, economic crime, and governance in real-world case studies, including works on the controversial Colombo Hilton Hotel construction fraud and privatisation initiatives. He was a member of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities and an associate member of the American Bar Association, with professional credentials including Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.
