Their Story

Lindsey Olin Graham was a prominent American politician who represented South Carolina in the United States Senate for over two decades, from 2003 until his death in 2026. A Republican and one of the Senate's most vocal foreign policy voices, Graham shaped American political discourse through his interventionist approach to international relations, particularly regarding Iran and the Middle East. He was a steadfast supporter of strong U.S.-Israel relations and advocated for military engagement as a tool of diplomacy. Before his lengthy Senate tenure, Graham served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003, representing South Carolina's 3rd congressional district, and began his legislative career in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1993 to 1995. His public service extended to the military as well; he served as a Judge Advocate General in the U.S. Air Force from 1982 to 1988, working as both a defense attorney and chief prosecutor in Europe. He continued his military commitment through the Air Force Reserve during his congressional career, eventually attaining the rank of colonel and receiving a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in 2014. Graham earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of South Carolina and completed his law degree in 1981, establishing a career as both an attorney and politician. Though he initially opposed Donald Trump's 2016 presidential candidacy and was critical of the Tea Party movement, Graham later became one of Trump's close allies. He was reelected to the Senate in 2008, 2014, and 2020, and was the Republican nominee in 2026 when his death occurred.
