Their Story
Justin Cary was the longtime bassist for the 1990s band Sixpence None the Richer, a Christian alt-music band formed in 1992. Justin joined the band in 1997, and the following year they released their hit single "Kiss Me," one of the defining songs of the decade. The following year it became the theme song for the teen romantic comedy film She's All That, which led to the song becoming a global smash. Over the years, Justin had toured with artists including the Counting Crows, Jennifer Knapp, Lee Brice, as well as Taylor Swift. Beyond his musical contributions, Justin Cary was kind, talented, and one of the funniest people his bandmate Leigh Nash had met. The band described him as "our brother of 30 years", reflecting the deep bonds formed during decades of collaboration. Justin died on June 18, 2026, after recently suffering from a serious stroke that left him requiring care at Albany Medical Center in New York. He is survived by his wife, Linda.
