Their Story

Glen Hansard was an accomplished Irish singer-songwriter, musician, and actor whose career spanned three decades. As the frontman of the rock band the Frames from 1990, he helped establish their distinctive sound and guided the group through six studio albums, with four reaching the top ten of the Irish charts. Beyond his band work, Hansard formed the folk rock duo the Swell Season and pursued a solo career, releasing albums including Rhythm and Repose (2012) and Didn't He Ramble (2015), the latter receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album. Hansard's creative reach extended to film and theatre. He appeared in the acclaimed comedy-drama The Commitments (1991) and the Golden Globe-nominated Cyrano (2021). His most celebrated work came with the musical drama Once (2007), in which he both starred and contributed music. The film received widespread recognition, culminating in the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly," which he co-wrote and performed with co-star Markéta Irglová. The success of Once led to its adaptation into a musical theatre production, extending his artistic legacy beyond cinema.
