Their Story
Giacomo Lanzetti was born in Carmagnola on 21 April 1942 and ordained a priest on 26 June 1966. He served as a pastoral figure throughout his career, later becoming a bishop. In 2002, he was elected auxiliary bishop of Turin during the tenure of Cardinal Severino Poletto, ordained bishop on 20 July 2002, and appointed to the titular church of Mariana in Corsica. He later served as bishop of Alghero-Bosa from 2006 to 2010, and then as bishop of Alba Pompeia from 2010 until his retirement in 2015. In Turin, Lanzetti founded the parish of San Benedetto Abate in the 1970s, which became one of the most vibrant faith communities of that era. He also served as diocesan assistant to Catholic Action. After his retirement, he spent his final years in prayer and reflection before his death at age 84 on 2 July 2026 at Ospedale Cottolengo in Turin. His salma was laid to rest in the Crypt of the Bishops of Alba Cathedral.
