Azar Azima was born December 11, 1927 in Isfahan and died June 23, 2026, leaving behind a groundbreaking legacy in Iranian classical and radio music. Known by her full name Azarmidokht Azima Serajpour, she began her artistic career with Radio Iran in 1954, at a time when women's participation in Iran's professional music scene was still developing. She was one of the first singers featured on the Golha radio program, a prestigious series central to the history of Iranian music broadcasting. Her first song was a composition by Abolhassan Saba with a poem by Abolhassan Varzi, establishing her connection to some of Iran's most distinguished musicians. She performed her song Rah Shiraz with the Farabi Orchestra, led by her husband Morteza Hananeh, contributing to the evolution of Iranian orchestral music. Though she shifted to administrative work later in her career, Azima's pioneering contributions to women's participation in Iranian radio broadcasting remain significant, despite her legacy not receiving the attention it deserves in recent years.
