Artur Dmitriev (1968 – 2026)

Their Story

Artur Dmitriev was a Soviet and Russian figure skater who competed in pair skating, making history as the first male figure skater to win Olympic gold medals with two different partners. Born in Bila Tserkva in the Kiev region, Dmitriev moved to Leningrad to train under the guidance of renowned specialists Tamara Moskvina and Fanis Shakirzyanov. He achieved his first major success with partner Natalia Mishkutionok, and in 1991 and 1992 the athletes twice became world and european champions, with the peak of their joint career being the victory at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. After briefly retiring to professional shows, the figure skaters returned to amateur sports to participate in the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer, where Dmitriev and Mishkutionok became silver medalists. After finishing his career with Mishkutionok, Dmitriev paired up with Oksana Kazakova, and in 1998 they won gold at the Olympic Games in Nagano. After completing his active performances on the ice, Artur Dmitriev switched to coaching. He died at age 58 following heart surgery.
